Recommendation: SWE-bench Verified is the current gold standard for evaluating coding agents on realistic tasks. Terminal-Bench is the best benchmark for evaluating CLI-native agents. HumanEval and MBPP are useful baselines but do not capture the complexity of real-world software engineering tasks.

When evaluating AI PR review tools, consider:

  1. False positive rate. A tool that flags non-issues creates reviewer fatigue and gets disabled. Sourcery and CodeRabbit lead on this metric.
  2. Self-hosting option. Regulated industries often require code to remain on-premises. Qodo PR-Agent is the strongest self-hosted option.
  3. Context depth. Does the tool understand your full codebase or just the diff? Greptile and CodeRabbit provide the deepest context.
  4. Integration breadth. GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Azure DevOps. Check coverage for your platform.
  5. Customization. Can you define custom rules, suppress specific findings, and tune sensitivity? This determines long-term usability.
